With the holiday season approaching, you've probably considered a staycation as a holiday activity for the whole family. We did some research and came up with a list of 10 hotels in Singapore that are equipped with elderly-friendly features and wheelchair facilities, so grandma and grandpa can have a fuss-free vacation with the family! We've categorised these hotels according to star rating, so you can check out which are more suitable based on your budget.
1. Grand Hyatt Hotel:
One of the top hotels in Singapore, Grand Hyatt is designed to cater to customers with special needs. Elderly friendly features are equipped throughout the building, including accessible guestrooms (Levels 5 and 6) installed with grab bars. Guests can rest assured that the premises is wheelchair-friendly, with wheelchair accessible doors, elevators and parking lots. Wheelchairs are even available upon request.
2. The Fullerton Hotel
Located by the river in the heart of the CBD, The Fullerton Hotel provides a scenic and luxurious staycation experience steeped in Singapore's history. The main entrance has no steps, and the side entrance is equipped with a stair lift so ensure maximum accessibility. The link way has ramps and handrails on both sides for those who require support while walking. There is also a large number (20 lots) of handicap parking lots, and there are kerb ramps thoughtfully installed at boarding and alighting bays. Inside the hotel's lifts, grab bars are installed on all sides, providing support where necessary. Most importantly, there are horizontal, vertical and flip-up grab bar and also a call bell installed in bathrooms.
3. Four Seasons Hotel Singapore
The main entrance of The Four Seasons hotel is installed with automated doors to ensure accessibility whereas ramps are stair lifts are available too to enter the building easily. For guest with mobility aids, accessible parking lots are also available on levels B3, B2 and 2. There is also ample seating level 1. Families with elderly members and members with special needs can request for wheelchair-accessible rooms, with wheelchairs available upon request. Bathrooms lead to a roll-in shower equipped with grab bars.
4. Hotel Fort Canning
A stone's throw away from Fort Canning Park, Hotel Fort Canning is the lovely for guests that are interested in soaking in heritage, nature and history. The main entrance of the hotel is equipped with an accessible automated door for, making it more convenient for those with mobility aids. Within the hotel, there are 2 accessible lifts. Hotel Fort Canning also provides wheelchair accessible room with grab bars installed in the bathrooms and toilets for elderly guests.
5. Bay Hotel Singapore
The 333-room Bay Hotel Singapore is the largest executive boutique hotel in Singapore. There are 2 accessible hotel rooms with accessible toilets, shower and switch buttons. In addition, there are also 6 elderly friendly hotel rooms. These elderly friendly hotels rooms are also equipped as ambulant shower and toilets, providing convenience and ensuring safety of older adults. The hotel has automated doors and accessible parking lots. You may make your requests for specific accessibility needs by completing the “Special or Accessibility Requests” form when making your booking.
6. York Hotel
York Hotel is just a 5 minute walking distance away from Orchard Road and recently upgraded their facilities with various elderly and wheelchair-friendly features. There is a ramp at the Scotts Road to better facilitate wheelchair access. The hotel also has an elderly and handicapped-friendly lift. Toilets in the hotel are equipped with grab bars mounted on walls to provide support. Foldable grab bars are installed next to toilet bowls for more convenience.
7. Park Royal on Pickering Hotel
PARKROYAL on Pickering caters well to elderly and people with special needs by ensuring that there are ramps, lifts and handicap-accessible rooms. Every floor is accessible by elevator. To enter the building, there is the driveway ramp suitable for those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. With that said, the hotel does have limited guestrooms with elderly and handicap accessible toilets. To ensure availability of elderly-friendly rooms, it is best to enquire and reserve your room in advance, rather than making your request when checking in.
8. Dorsett Hotel
Dorsett Hotel is 10-storey hotel located in Chinatown and 1 minute distance away from the nearest Mrt hence it is very much accessible for tourist who are looking to take the public transport. There is a total of 285 rooms in which it includes wheelchair accessible rooms. However for those with mobility issues, grab bars are only provided in the wheelchair accessible rooms only. The hotel has disabled facilities and lifts to all floors. Accessible path of travel for guest with wheelchairs are provided as well as accessible bathroom and roll-in shower. It is a comfortable accommodation to consider for your next hotel stay.
9. Jayleen 1918 Hotel
Jayleen 1918 Hotel is 42-room boutique hotel where elderly-friendly rooms fitted with grab bars and handicapped friendly rooms are available upon request. The lifts and elevators are also wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs are provided for customers at the reception counter. You may also request for staff assistance to open the gate of carpark which allows wheelchair users to enter the hotel.
10. Parc Sovereign Hotel Tyrwhitt
For some local flavour, head to the vicinity of heritage sites like Chinatown Heritage Center and Peranakan Museum. This hotel is 10 minutes walking distance from Bugis and Little India MRT stations and is equipped with wheelchair-friendly features. These include disabled parking lots, accessible travel paths, and accessible bathrooms. Those with mobility issues can also make use of the hotel's gym, sauna, steam room amongst other facilities. Upon request, customers can opt for accessible guest rooms which are located on level 4.
